Mette Rasmussen & Pak Yan Lau conclude a Sound in Motion recording session with a live show in the Oorstof series. Hot on the heels of their superb trio debut at the Summer Bummer fest, Farida Amadou (bass), Audrey Lauro (altosax) and Hanne De Backer (baritonsax) invite percussionist Karen Willems to join in and set out as a 4tet.

Metter Rasmussen’s remarkably fluent and expressive sound on the alto saxophone is situated somewhere between the celestial and bright tone of Albert Ayler and the scraping roar of Mats Gustafsson. This became more than clear during her succesfull appearances in the Oorstof series with Chris Corsano, Fire! Orchestra and the project with Anna Högberg, Audrey Lauro, Christine Abdelnour, Yuko Oshima and Pak Yan Lau. Sound and improvisation are two important elements in the work of multi-instrumentalist Pak Yan Lau. Prepared piano, synths and toy piano’s are her sound weapons of choice, preferable in adventureous combinations with like minded artists. That’s the least we can say about the Rasmussen-Lau duo. They will conclude a multi-day Sound in Motion recording session in style with this concert at DE Studio, no pun intended…

Farida Amadou (bas), Audrey Lauro (altsax) and Hanne De Backer (baritonsax) surprised the audience with a forceful debut concert at the Summer Bummer Ferstival that left us hungry for more. Fortunately we don’t have to wait very long for a follow-up. And, this adventurous trio will literally get even more clout, adding percussionist Karen Willems, expanding spontaneously into a dynamic quartet. Karen Willems recently comes to the for next to experimental guitar player and sound manipulator Jean D.L. – first release is out on Bruise On Silence – but is of course known for her work with bands and artists like Zita Swoon, Yuko and Inwolves
