Belgian debut for the challenging Norwegian quintet Nakama and record release show for g a b b r o the adventurous baritone sax duo of Hanne De Backer and Marc De Maeseneer.
Bass player Christian Meaas Svendsen and drummer Andreas Wildhagen played earlier in the Oorstof series with Momentum and Large Unit. But the musical appetite of this new generation Norwegian musicians is pretty big as Meaas Svendsen en Wildhagen prove by presenting Nakama, a select group of young musicians that playfully explores the potential of composition and improvisation, silence and surprising auditive swerves. Inspired by European Jazz, early American contemporary composition, Japanese traditional music and harmonies of the classic romantic period Nakama amazed us in 2016 with Grand Line and Most Intimate, two releases that are a masterly display of their musical diversity. Now for the first time on tour as a quintet introducing the new Nakama member Agnes Hvizdalek an Austrian vocal artist, residing in Oslo.

g a b b r o > HANNE DE BACKER & MARC DE MAESENEER
Baritone sax players Hanne De Backer and Marc De Maeseneer both actively cover a wide range of the musical spectrum. Still they return to the tradition of jazz and free jazz for inspiration in order to produce something completely of their own, uncompromising and very contemporary. In September 2016 they recorded the debut of their g a b b r o duo stretching the limits and exploring the possibilities and sound colours of the baritone sax at the beautiful resonating expo space of Het Bos. On May 4th De Backer and De Maeseneer will present the resulting g a b b r o lp to the audience while duelling their baritone saxes in the perfect acoustic ambience of DE Fred.
