On Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th of February at deSingel, Antwerp, we celebrate the 80th birthday of Belgian piano player, free jazz and improvised music pioneer Fred Van Hove.
And what a celebration it will be …
Next to a challenging bill with unprecedented collaborations blending young and old, known and unknown there will be a two day pop-up expo on Fred, a dedicated record stand and a blend of excellent homemade food.
In the mean time we can confirm that in addition to the already mind blowing line up the grand finale of the festival will really be a GRAND FINALE…
The WIM Ensemble – Luc Mishalle, Paul Vlaeminck, Peter Jacquemyn, Mike Goyvaerts, Ivo Vander Borght – is brewing on something very special indeed.
To know what exactly that will be, you will need to attend the festival of course.
All we can say is that Evan Parker, Hamid Drake, Steve Beresford, Paul Lovens, Mark Sanders, Sarah Gail Brand, Seppe Gebruers, Lisa Ullén, Elsa Bergman, Isak Hedtjärn, Erik Carlsson, Gino Coomans, Els Vandeweyer, Martin Blume and Niels Van Heertum already confirmed they will participate …

Once again the Oorstof funding file is judged as good instead of very good. This means the Flemish Government will not support Oorstof and all the artists involved. So much for the support that committee members always pretended to have, thanks guys. We do value all the encouraging words of support we are getting from artists and visitors alike but a negative impact it will have this time. Not least for the young artists for which the support is very much needed and asked for in the first place.
We are of course proud that last August about 400 people showed up for the Dropa Disc label launch. And if you haven’t already you can get the 2 lp’s and the book we released at one of the upcoming Oorstof shows starting on Thursday September 29th at Het Bos with Mike Watt (Minutemen), Eve Libertine (Crass) and GW Sok (the Ex) who will bring respectively Il Sogno Del Marinaio, King Champion Sounds and Baby Fire to show how relevant they still are. On October 6th we move to DE Studio for the world premiere of the stellar duo Mars Baars (Mars Williams & Ab Baars), the Momentum Trio with members of Large Unit and a piano solo touching on Alice Coltrane and Cecil Taylor by Ka Baird.
