ØKSE: METTE RASMUSSEN – VAL JEANTY – SAVANNAH HARRIS – PETTER ELDH (DK/HT/US/SE)

ØKSE’s eponymous debut album was released in 2024, on the revered label Backwoodz. It’s a daring experimental Jazz project that features contributions from some of hip-hop’s most unique voices. The band itself is an international all-star team consisting of; NYC based drummer Savannah Harris, Danish saxophonist Mette Rasmussen, Haitian, NYC based electronic musician Val Jeanty (Val-Inc), and Swede Petter Eldh on bass, synths and sampler. Each already established as solo artists, as ØKSE they collectively mine new ground, pushing and pulling at the edges of genre.

“The glass wall between hip-hop and free jazz is the most obvious one that is shattered, but also in the sound and the underlying ideas, worlds that at first glance seem far apart are interwoven.” – Stijn Buyst, Gonzo (Circus)

Leila Bordreuil (FR/US)

Leila Bordreuil is a French cellist, composer, improviser and sound artist based in Brooklyn. Her musical language borrows concepts from harsh noise, free jazz, contemporary-classical and other experimental traditions but adheres to no single genre. Driven by a fierce interest in pure sound and inherent texture, Leila challenges conventional cello practice through original extended techniques and extreme amplification methods.

Her compositions explore psychoacoustic happenings and sound-spatialization through multichannel and site-specific pieces. Her musical collaborations are numerous and diverse, and recent/ongoing collaborators include Bill Nace (Body/Head), Tamio Shiraishi (Fushitutsa), Zach Rowden (Tongue Depressor), Kali Malone, Luke Stewart (Irreversible Entanglements), Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), and Laurel Halo.
