POM Eindhoven
This brand new transatlantic collaboration joins three renowned improvisers in a first time matchup that promises to be stellar. Rapidly rising talent on electric bass Farida Amadou has been shaking up the European improvised music scene since she first started playing the instrument in 2011. She’s participated in high-flying collaborations with heavyweight improvisers like Peter Brotzmann, Steve Noble, and Thurston Moore, many of which have been documented on the Antwerp-based Dropa Disc label. Jonas Cambien on piano, a fellow Belgian like Amadou, has been living in Norway since 2008, where he’s become an integral part of the thriving Norwegian improvised music scene. He works regularly with his own trio featuring saxophonist André Roligheten and Andreas Wildhagen on drums, and he’s also a founding member of the contemporary music ensemble Aksiom. Saxophonist Dave Rempis is no stranger to Belgian audiences, having performed regularly since around 2000 with countless bands including The Rempis Percussion Quartet, Ballister, Kuzu, The Engines, and The Vandermark Five.
Taking advantage of a meeting planned for the Visitations Residency program in Antwerp this November, these three plan to extend that collaboration into an opportunity to both record and perform for the first time as a trio with a few concerts around Belgium and Netherlands. On Sunday, November 13th, they’ll make their debut at the intimate and beloved POM in Eindhoven. This live recording event – a collaboration between POM and SiM/Oorstof – should be an incredible opportunity to witness the birth of new trio live in motion!
