M.A.N. – B.A.N. 2 x LP + DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE AT CHECK OUT !

Already when Steve Noble slowly brings his percussive assault into position on the M.A.N. lp, it is hard to keep track of who is playing what until the distinct features of Farida Amadou’s frenetic bass manipulations and Thurston Moore’s long-toned wails slowly give them away, just long enough until they collectively lift the music into oblivion and back again. Over on the B.A.N. lp, Brötzmann’s ferocious opening lament is instantly met by Noble and Amadou with a complex rhythmic web that pushes the dynamics to the limits but acts as a safeguard on this auditive rollercoaster as well.

Both M.A.N. and B.A.N. are exceptional trio efforts capturing different generations of improvisers at an absolute high. The M.A.N. – B.A.N. double lp in a gatefold sleeve was released in a limited edition of 300 copies on November 1st 2021. Description

Asked if they would be interested to perform at the Summer Bummer Festival in 2019 with reed player Peter Brötzmann, both bass player Farida Amadou and drummer Steve Noble replied with a quick and definite ‘yes’. The plans to join forces with this iconic player existed already and the Summer Bummer Festival would be ideal to meet on stage for the first time. To show the extreme musical diversity of Noble and Amadou, another trio was added on the 2nd day of the festival, one that shook things up earlier at London’s Cafe Oto, when Thurston Moore – another key player that just like Brötzmann never ceases to challenge and defy the mainstream standards – joined Amadou and Noble for some blistering improvised sets.

The results of these highly energetic but very contrasting on stage meetings at the Summer Bummer Festival in 2019 were recorded, assembled and are now presented as M.A.N. – B.A.N., a brand new limited double gatefold lp on the Dropa Disc imprint. The level of interaction that both the M.A.N. (Moore, Amadou, Noble) and the B.A.N. (Brötzmann, Amadou, Noble) trio generate on these recordings, is nothing less than stunning. Already when Noble slowly brings his percussive assault into position on the M.A.N. lp, it is hard to keep track of who is playing what until the distinct features of Amadou’s frenetic bass manipulations and Moore’s long-toned wails slowly give them away, just long enough until they collectively lift the music into oblivion and back again.
