Het Kip en De Ei & Oorstof present The Quin Kirchner Quintet, an American quintet led by drummer Quin Kirchner with some Chicago mainstays in the ranks: Jason Stein (bass clarinet), Nate Lepine (tenor sax), Nick Broste (trombone) en Matt Ulery (bass).
Kirchner works on a regular base with the core of Chicago’s jazz-, pop- and improv scene like Rob Mazurek, Jeb Bishop, Jeff Parker, Greg Ward, Dave Rempis, Paul Giallorenzo, Mars Williams and even guitar player, songwriter Ryley Walker. Kirchner made his debut as a leader in 2018 with The Other Side of Time (Astral Spirits, Spacetone), a double album with 80 minutes of sublime music that guides us from Charles Mingus and Sun Ra, via Paul Motian and Phil Cohran apparently effortlessly to freejazz. This superb double album swiftly found it’s way to best of the year lists in 2018. Now The Quin Kirchner Quintet is heading for Europe for the first time with a stop at Madame Fortuna’s on February 20th for what promises to be a memorable night of music.
