NONA
After the sold out 2 day celebration of Fred Van Hove’s 80th birthday at deSingel, Fred Van Hove at 80 continues with a couple of shows starting with a solo set at NONA, Mechelen, pairing him with Bram De Looze representing the new generation of improvisors, solo on 3 fortepianos. The show is a collaboration between NONA and Cultuurcentrum Mechelen and is part of their JazzXS series.
With piano, (church) organ, carillon and accordeon player Fred Van Hove JazzXS lines up two generations of musicians and improvisors. Van Hove already made his mark in 2016 at the BRAND ! Festival in a duo with saxophone player André Goudbeek, just recently was awarded with the Klara Career Award and celebrates his 80th birthday this year. All perfect reasons to invite Fred Van Hove back to NONA for a unique solo concert.
Known for his challenging collaborations with the best musicians of the international (free) jazz and improvisation scene it is often during the rare solo moments that this improvisation pioneer excels.
The young piano player Bram De Looze is known for his work with LABtrio and as driving force behind Septych. Though his piano playing is mostly based on improvisation De Looze draws inspiration from classic, contemporary music and jazz. For this occasion he wil use the characteristics of the fortepiano (3 of them) and will blend works originally intended for this unique instrument with his own creativity, technical skills and interpretation.
