Ig Henneman – gabby fluke-mogul

Together with Klankhaven and Rataplan, Oorstof is proud to present the American violinist gabby fluke-mogul for their first ever concert in Belgium, in duo with the amazing violist Ig Henneman. The meeting of these string players is an exciting clash of generations, with fluke-mogul representing a new lineage of young and eager improvisers while the experienced Henneman proves herself hungry as ever for new challenges.

gabby fluke-mogul is a New York based violinist, improviser, composer and educator, weaving within the threads of avant and free jazz with deep roots in improvised and experimental music. Having released a handful of records on the Relative Pitch label, and having collaborated with the likes of Zeena Parkins, William Parker, Pauline Oliveiros and Ava Mendoza, fluke-mogul is one of the most exciting improvisers to emerge in recent years.

Violist, composer and improviser Ig Henneman has been a key figure in the Amsterdam improvised and new music scenes since the early eighties, leading her own ensembles and establishing the organization/label Stichting WIG together with Ab Baars, producing more than 700 concerts and 33 cd’s. She has played and recorded with Misha Mengelberg, Ingrid Laubrock, Dave Burrell and Jaimie Branch amongst others.

RUBEN VERBEECK – TOON PUTTEMAN – ELIAS D’HOOGE + SPECIAL GUEST: JULIEN TASSIN

Double bass player Ruben Verbeeck presents a classical piano trio featuring Toon Putteman on drums and winner of the acclaimed international B-Jazz competition Elias D’hooge on piano. Their repertoire is admittedly anything but classical as it is partly composed, partly free improvised. The compositions are written by Toon and Ruben, with Toon working with more fixed rhythmic structures, while Ruben approaches the calibrated parameters of music more freely.

As a guest musician, they invited none other than guitarist Julien Tassin, who can effortlessly pick up on their daring compositions. The intention is to both challenge and inspire him to take the young trio in tow.
