Legendary bassist Mike Watt has been a quintessential part of the alternative music scene for decades. He is of course mostly known for the hugely influential punk rock band Minutemen, which he started with his childhood friend D. Boon in 1980. After the disbanding of Minutemen, he went on to form Firehose, delivering killer albums like ‘Ragin’, Full On’ and ‘If’n’. Watt has been active in many different bands and projects since then, including The Stooges, Banyan, Unknown Instructors, Big Walnuts Yonder and solo projects.

In late November 2009, Watt traveled to Italy to tour and record at the invitation of Italian guitarist Stefano Pilia (Massimo Volume, In Zaire, Afterhours, Rokia Traore). Together with drummer Paolo Mongardi (Zeus, Fuzz Orchestra, Fulkanelli) they formed Il Sogno Del Marinaio. The trio will release “Terzo”, their new album via Improved Sequence in May 2024. This new batch of recordings is an incredible document of a band that’s creating their own path, ascending to new heights while bending the traditional rock format. From sinewy grooves, to off-kilter jazz-skronk, post-punk freakouts, kosmische Hendrix stabs and furious angular funk, Il Sogno Del Marinaio’s new album literally breathes life, anchored by Watt’s low thud and spiel, Pilia’s fierce and celestial playing and Mongardi’s knack for unusual but steady rhythms.
