For artists, public and Sound in Motion a Summer Bummer mini session at Citadelic  is heaven-sent. Despite the cancellation of the Oorstof spring concerts, the Visitations three-day event in April and eventually the Summer Bummer Festival some of the scheduled artists for these events will now get a chance to take the stage. The selfless Citadelic team clears the stage for this Summer Bummer mini session during the afternoon session between 11.00 and 15.00 on Friday August 21st. But there’s is more than only Summer Bummer at the Citadelic Festival that weekend. Discover the complete programme here!

The concerts are free of entrance. For details on how to make a reservation, how to register (obligated) and how to keep the festival corona proof please scroll further down on this page, or check the info on the facebook events page here !

13.45 HANNE DE BACKER – FARIDA AMADOU – AUDREY LAURO – STAN MARIS

If Covid-19 doesn’t put a stop to it the successful meeting between Ken Vandermark’s Marker and Belgian players Farida Amadou (el. bass), Hanne De Backer (baritone sax), Audrey Lauro (alto sax) and Stan Maris (accordion) will be continued in November 2020. In the mean time these four driven Belgian musicians will play for the first time live on stage as a quartet at this Summer Bummer mini session at Citadelic.

Amadou, Maris, De Backer and Lauro are regular guests at the Oorstof concert series and at previous Summer Bummer Festivals. Amadou shared the stage with Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Steve Noble, Peter Brötzmann, Rodrigo Amado and Tom Malmendier; De Backer toured with Agnes Hvizdalek, Raphael Malfliet and Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø as g a b b r o and collaborated with Paal Nilssen-Love, Angel Bat Dawid, Signe Emmeluth and The Ex; Lauro made her mark on stage with musicians like Mette Rasmussen, Anna Högberg, Pak Yan Lau, Christine Abdelnour, Yuko Oshima, Ada Rave, Adam Cadell and Jasper Stadhouders; Maris was one of the revelations of the Summer Bummer festival in 2018 and stood out at the Visitations event in 2019.

13.00 ANANTA ROOSENS

Violin player Ananta Roosens steps out of her comfort zone and starts with a clean slate in her solo project ceci n’est pas un violon. With her violin and voice augmented with common household objects she embarks on a surprising musical journey into the unknown. She distances herself from the all too familiar world of classical and world music and dives into a sounding adventure in search for musical freedom.

Roosens studied classic and tango violin at the music conservatory of Rotterdam. During her studies she founded La Sieste du Dromadaire, a band somewhere between tango, classical music and jazz. After her studies she was drawn more and more to jazz and improvised music while teaching herself to play the trumpet.

12.00 DUO > ANN EYSERMANS – FRANS VAN ISACKER

Ann Eysermans’ and Frans Van Isacker’s planned visit to the three day Visitations event and the Summer Bummer Festival with Nicolas Chkifi and Ananta Roosens vanished into thin air due to the cancellations because of the Covid-19 virus. Now Eysermans and Van Isacker will finally hit the stage, and will do so under the name of DUO .

Harp and (bass) clarinet. Harp and (alto) saxophone.
Improvisation. Composition. Graphic scores, music boxes,
Frannbies.

A small history –  of collecting unbound sounds and harmonies – repeats itself over and again, each time in a different way and disparate. Heraclitus said: “Opposites unite, out of divergences the most beautiful harmonies emerge, everything emanates out of duality.” (Fragment B8) Something like that.

Ann Eysermans: Harp, music boxes, composition, graphic scores
Frans Van lsacker: Clarinet, alto sax
