This Thursday 23rd of February Oorstof presents an exciting double bill with Urge Trio and Rotozaza. Going by the superb music we hear on Urge Trio’s new release Live at The Hungry Brain (Veto/Exchange) and on Rotozaza’s recent release Zero (Leo Records) and topping it with the references these musicians carry we are pretty sure you are in for a serious treat. Urge Trio is Tomeka Reid (Nicole Mitchell Black Earth Ensemble, Mike Reed’s Loose Assembly, AACM, Great Black Music Ensemble), Keefe Jackson (Fast Citizens, Project Project, Roebke Octet, Berman & His Gang) and Christophe Erb (Adasiewicz, Roebke, Lonberg-Holm). Rotozaza is Rudi Mahall (Globe Unity Orchestra, Monk’s Casino, Sven-Åke Johansson), Christian Lillinger (Grund, Peter Evans, Tobia Delius), Nicola L. Hein (Evan Parker, John Russell, Paul Lytton, Frank Gratkwoski) and Adam Pultz Melbye (Michiyo Yagi, Paul Lovens, Mark Sanders). The show will happen at De Kleine Zaal of deSingel right next to the downstairs artist bar. You don’t need to get tickets at the Box Office of deSingel, just come down to the bar, Oorstof will have the box office at the door of De Kleine Zaal. What a total blast the celebration of Fred Van Hove’s 80th birthday was at deSingel last weekend ! The sheer brilliance of all the performances and selling out 2 days was way beyond our expectations. Oorstof will be back at deSingel already on Thu 23 February, this time at the superb acoustic Kleine Zaal with the exciting double bill of Urge Trio > Keefe Jackson, Tomeka Reid & Christoph Erb and Rotozaza > Rudi Mahall, Nicola L. Hein, Adam Pultz Melbye & Christian Lillinger. Make your reservation here !.
But first things first. On Thursday 16 February at Het Bos (Bos Bar) there’s a Dropa Disc label presentation (2 new releases coming up) in the Closet of Records series with a live show of Jeph Jerman & Tim Barnes (around 20.30) and Dropa Disc’s Koen Vandenhoudt spinning records (as of 18.00). On Saturday 18 February we team up with grambacht and move to the wonderful new art hub Artenova (across the train station of Mechelen) for a double bill with Ilta Hämärä (Bart Sloow & Timo van Luijk) and Jeph Jerman & Tim Barnes. On Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th of February at deSingel, Antwerp, we celebrate the 80th birthday of Belgian piano player, free jazz and improvised music pioneer Fred Van Hove.
And what a celebration it will be …
Next to a challenging bill with unprecedented collaborations blending young and old, known and unknown there will be a two day pop-up expo on Fred, a dedicated record stand and a blend of excellent homemade food.
In the mean time we can confirm that in addition to the already mind blowing line up the grand finale of the festival will really be a GRAND FINALE…
The WIM Ensemble – Luc Mishalle, Paul Vlaeminck, Peter Jacquemyn, Mike Goyvaerts, Ivo Vander Borght – is brewing on something very special indeed.
To know what exactly that will be, you will need to attend the festival of course.
All we can say is that Evan Parker, Hamid Drake, Steve Beresford, Paul Lovens, Mark Sanders, Sarah Gail Brand, Seppe Gebruers, Lisa Ullén, Elsa Bergman, Isak Hedtjärn, Erik Carlsson, Gino Coomans, Els Vandeweyer, Martin Blume and Niels Van Heertum already confirmed they will participate …
